Your Next Turn: How Small Steps Can Lead to Your Next Chapter in Life

Your Next Turn Starts with One Small Step

Feeling stuck? Wondering if your best days are behind you? What if your next chapter doesn’t begin with one giant leap—but with one small turn?

Have You Ever Felt Like You’re in a Rut?

I have. Actually…more times than I can count.

You would think that as we get older—and hopefully a little wiser—that life would get easier. That we’d finally figure everything out. But that’s not how life works.

One of our favorite YouTube creators at Keep Your Daydream calls them “the dips.” I call them ruts. Maybe you call them roadblocks, setbacks, or just feeling stuck.

Whatever name you give them, they can leave you wondering:

“Is this all there is?”

The truth is, those seasons can be discouraging—if you don’t know how to climb back out.

Over the years, we’ve learned something important:

Life isn’t a straight road.

It’s full of curves, hills, detours, construction zones, unexpected stops, and beautiful scenic routes you never planned to take.

The goal isn’t to avoid the twists and turns.

The goal is to learn how to navigate them.

What Is a “Next Turn”?

At first, we thought making progress meant making huge, life-changing decisions.

Quit your job. Move across the country. Start a business. Sell everything. Completely reinvent yourself.

But that’s rarely how meaningful change happens.

Somewhere along the way, we realized that our biggest life changes were actually the result of hundreds of tiny decisions.

Reading one encouraging book. Listening to one podcast that shifted our thinking. Finding a mentor who had already walked a similar path. Having one difficult conversation. Trying something we’d never done before. Choosing curiosity over comfort.

Those small decisions eventually led to much bigger ones.

We changed careers. We moved. We homeschooled our kids. We started businesses. We bought the fun car instead of the practical one. We ventured into riding two-wheels (Vespas). We decided we should go on adventures with the Vespas in an RV.

None of those decisions happened overnight.

Each one was built through months—or even years—of dreaming, learning, praying, planning, waiting, and taking one small step after another.

Every one of those turns introduced us to new people, new opportunities, new friendships, and experiences we never would have had if we’d stayed where we were.

That’s what Your Next Turn is all about.

It’s not one giant leap.

It’s the next right step.

Every Season Brings a New Opportunity

Looking back, every major change in our lives happened during a season of transition.

Some of those seasons we chose. Others chose us.

Sometimes life invites you into a new chapter. Other times life pushes you there. Either way, you have a choice. You can let the season define you… Or you can let it develop you.

That’s not always easy.

Sometimes moving forward means choosing hope when you don’t have all the answers. Sometimes it means believing tomorrow can be better than today. Sometimes it simply means refusing to stop. Because if we stop growing, we slowly begin moving backward. We’ve learned that even the hardest seasons often become the ones we’re most thankful for later.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Maybe you’re standing at one of those crossroads right now.

If you are, you’re not alone.

The Moments That Often Become Our Next Turn

Life has a way of presenting us with crossroads.

Maybe you’re experiencing one of these today:

  • Becoming an empty nester
  • Retirement
  • A career change
  • Starting or selling a business
  • Health challenges
  • Losing someone you love
  • Burnout
  • Financial setbacks
  • Kids growing up
  • A move to a new city
  • Simply realizing you want something different

These moments can feel overwhelming.

But they can also become the beginning of something incredible.

Why We Stay Stuck

If taking the next step is so important, why do so many of us stay where we are?

Usually, it comes down to three things.

Fear

Fear tells us we’re too old. Too inexperienced. Too late. Too comfortable where we are.

Comfort

Even when we’re unhappy, what’s familiar often feels safer than what’s unknown. Comfort can quietly become a cage.

Waiting for the “Perfect” Time

Here’s something we’ve learned the hard way: The perfect time rarely arrives. If we wait until we’re completely ready, we’ll probably never start.

Progress almost always comes before confidence—not after it.

How to Take Your First Turn

You don’t have to change your whole life this week.

Just take one step.

Maybe that looks like:

  • Reading one book that inspires you.
  • Listening to a podcast on your drive to work.
  • Taking a class you’ve always wanted to try.
  • Calling someone who encourages you.
  • Going somewhere you’ve never been.
  • Saying “yes” to something that makes you a little nervous.
  • Starting the hobby you’ve been putting off.
  • Taking a short walk and allowing yourself to dream again.

Small turns create new roads.

Your Next Adventure Doesn’t Have to Be Huge

One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned is this:

Your next adventure doesn’t have to be extraordinary. It just has to begin.

That’s why we created Your Next Turn.

Not because we’ve figured life out. But because we’re still living it. We’re still learning. We’re still taking turns we never expected.

And we hope that by sharing our experiences—our successes, our mistakes, our travels, and our everyday moments—we can encourage someone else to take their own next step.

Whatever season you’re in…

Whatever rut, dip, or roadblock you’re facing…

Your story isn’t over.

Your next chapter may be closer than you think.

Sometimes, all it takes is one small turn.
