Where did it all start?
Once upon a time, we were small, small children… Just kidding, but we were quite young when we started our life together. A young 21 years old is when we tied the knot, and shortly thereafter had our most precious daughter, and a few years later had our wonderful son (at a whopping 1lb 10oz – ask us about that story someday!) and off we were on our crazy life journey.
Beginning so young didn’t afford us many options for doing anything but raising our family. Money was tight and only essentials were bought. Over the years, life changed at a turtles-pace and sometimes was just plain ol’ hard.
We always had huge dreams, the extra large kinda dreams. The ones that were meant for other people. We took things slow over the years and delayed many dreams, vacations, upgrades in homes and vehicles. And that was okay, after all, that’s what you have to do.
But… we got in that rut, of waiting… of delaying… of wondering if any of our dreams would come true, even the small ones. Sure we had small wins and were blessed so many times it’s tough to count. But we thought we would never realize so many things that we were desiring.
A realization came after visiting a friend that showed us we didn’t have to wait for everything to be perfect. Or better yet, wait for an unattainable dream. Our dreams were huge, and there is nothing wrong with that, but we were missing so many attainable smaller dreams. We were so focused on what we couldn’t have or places we may never visit that we put those ideas on the very back-burner of life.
So… here we are. We’ve decided to quit waiting for that ultimate dream and to start living our every day dreams. What does that mean? Paris, Ireland, Fiji will wait, but in the meantime, we’re starting where we’re at. At home. With jobs. Almost empty nesters.
Making small turns in life that we are able to make, right now, that are within our means.
What are a few small turns we’ve made recently?
Changing one vehicle from an SUV to a fun Mini sports car. Getting ourselves a couple of scooters and adventuring out (then upgrading to our favorite, Vespas). And now, looking at RVs to travel around our great country. What does this all equate to?
Being together, loving life, figuring each other out (which will never end), finding our happy place over and over again, and making many “next turns” in all different direction many times over.
